Free income tax preparation
American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) volunteer income tax preparers will help taxpayers with 2009 federal, state, school and local income tax returns. Please call to make appointments.
For your appointment bring:
- Social Security card of all those named on the tax return
- Copies of 2008 federal and state returns and all 2009 W-2's, 1099's and other relevant material showing 2009 income.
Documentation showing the following deductions for 2009 should also be available:
- Medical expenses
- Property taxes
- Taxes on the purchase of a vehicle.
The volunteers will also be at these locations:
Wilmington
- Friendly Center, 290 Prairie Ave., Fridays, 937-382-7938.
- Wilmington Public Library, 268 N. South St., Saturdays, 937-382-2417.
- Wilmington Senior Center, 717 N. Nelson Road, Wednesdays, 937-382-7170.
Blanchester
- Blanchester Public Library, 110 N. Broadway, Tuesdays, 937-783-3585.
- First Baptist Church, Tuesdays, 937-783-3671.
Electronic filing will be offered. Electronic filing will help get refunds quicker and is encouraged by IRS because it decreases the chance of mistakes. A form AARP volunteers enter into the computer doesn't have to be re-entered by IRS. So if the taxpayer agrees that the form is correct, he can be sure it will be entered into IRS computers correctly also.
All counselors are certified by the Internal Revenue Service and are familiar with the changes in the tax code and the special benefits available to older Americans and low income families with dependents.
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service with nearly 32,000 IRS certified volunteers staffing 8,000 sites across the U.S.
The program is supported by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, AARP, and private contributions. Visit AARP Tax-Aide to find out how to volunteer next year.
